searches on the Internet, you are a bona fide Big Daddy. But for
Google, it's more than a nickname--it's the future.
For months now, the 7-year-old search engine has been testing
new crawling and indexing systems with the hopes of making web
searches more intuitive and accurate. The project, called
"Bigdaddy," is much more than a software update. It's a total
refit of the search engine's infrastructure and software.

How search engine robots work?
Search Engine Robots Search engines are the key to finding
specific information on the vast expanse of the World Wide Web.
Without the use of sophisticated search engines, it would be
virtually impossible to locate anything on the Web.
How Search Engine Robots Work ?
Search Engines do not actually search the internet each time
somebody types in a search query. This would take far too long.
Instead, what they do is search through their databases of web
sites they have already indexed. The Search ...

Google's Big Daddy
Google has several data centers housing its index and anyone
familiar with the Google dance will know what I am talking
about. The dance is what occurs when one data center is not
returning the same results as another. Someone searching for
their keywords in LA will often have different results from
someone searching for the same words in New York. The data is
synching or dancing as SEO'ers have termed it.
A quote by Ph
ilC at webworkshop sums it up nicely:
"Google has quite a few separate

Google PageRank Explained
1. What is PageRank?
Here is what Google says:
" PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to ...

backlinks. These are links from other sites to your URL, which
direct the surfer directly to your site when the link is
clicked. The basic premise is that if you have high ranking
sites linking to you, then you must yourself be important ...

Internet Scams 102 -- Hijackings and Spyware
My friend Janice is afraid to go on the Internet because of the
terrible things that might happen to her. She views a simple
trip to get e-mail the way she views going alone, late at night,
to a dangerous part of town.
Please . . . it's not that bad. Though, come to think of it,
it's ALMOST that bad: hijackers can now do things to people who
already have antivirus and anti-spyware programs. To people who
have carefully NOT clicked on scam e-mails. Some hijackers can
